DTV Transition

So, earlier this evening my wife turns to me and says, "Channel 10 is completely off the TV now." I said 'I told you it would, last night.' then she says the funniest thing I've heard this year, so far. "Can we use one of the older TV sets downstairs?" Ya, there was laughter.

Now, I wonder how it is that I'll explain the digital transition to the six and two year old children that I live with. They will surely want to know what happened to their shows. I'll probably say something like, 'the magic went away' and 'we're waiting for a piece of paper that will let us get more boxes for less other kinds of papers that, when plugged into the walls, let us get the magic again'.

This Mortal Coil: a stream of consciousness

I've been trying to understand my philosophies--the nature of who, or what, I am and may become.  I, and all matter, evolve through time and experience. Where do I--We--It--fit into whatever cosmic equation turns out to be--mine, yours--our legacy... footprints in the space-time continuum...

Who will tell the stories in one hundred years? 200? 10,000?  Will some future child lay awake one night after accessing some ancient photos on some dusty hard drive stored in a box at some old outcropping in some future desert that used to be my house?

I dream of a child, some distant offspring , a few generations in the future. Will the child know who I am/was/could have been? Could I be the subject of some far distant show-and-tell?

Perhaps this is the only record of my existance...
